Following the procedure will there be a drain tube or just an opening in the side of the breast for drainage ?
For fat transfer, there is no drainage tube (otherwise you'd not only lose fat but introduce a portal for infection). I personally do not use drains for breast augmentation, but there are surgeons who prefer leaving a drain behind.
Hello and thank you for your excellent question. In general, we do NOT use a drainage tube during fat transfer cases. As noted elsewhere, it is not necessary to drain the fluid, and the tube can be a tract for infection. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. For a routine fat transfer you will not require a drainage tube. Tubes are typically reserved for areas of high volume liposuction or procedures that create the possibility of fluid collection. Hope this helps.
