Breast reduction on teen

I have a 15 year old daughter who has very large breasts, 34k. They impact her daily life and she isn’t able to participate in normal teenage activities, swimming etc, not to mention the back pain she endures. Is it safe to preform a breast reduction at such a young age? Of course we recommended she wait until at least 18, but I can’t help to think she’s missing out on life.

Procedure: Breast Reduction
Location: howell, MI

I have performed breast reductions on young ladies of 15 yrs if age provided that they are no longer growing and are of adult size. Best of luck.

It sounds like your daughter suffers from significant symptoms. The most important thing to consider is possible additional growth even after reduction or the enlargement related to pregnancy in the future. Both may necessitate additional reduction. That, however, is a moot point. The problem causes her not only physical discomfort but what you're describing as psycho-social distress. Take her to see a reputable, board certified plastic surgeon in your area.

The operation can be safely carried out at this age. Bear in mind that if her breasts are still developing, she may need top repeat the operation later on, although this is quite the exception.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question. It sounds as if your daughter would be an excellent breast reduction candidate to improve upon her concerns as well as allow her to be more physically active. At 15, she would have to know that the risks of her continuing to grow in size after the reduction is a possibility. Talk to a series of surgeons in your area for the best treatment advice.

Thank you for your question. It does sound like your daughter fits the criteria for a breast reduction. It is best to consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area to evaluate her more clearly.
