Hello,
Last November I jumped up and felt something separate/tear/pull on the left flank between the left ribs and hip. The CT scan shows degeneration of the oblique muscles. A pain doctor performing a TAP nerve block saw what he thought was a tear in the oblique muscles. During a MSK ultrasound they could not see the tear that he had seen two times. Can oblique degeneration be repaired?
I am not aware of any diagnosis such as "oblique degeneration." Would you kindly ask your pain specialist to point you in the right direction with respect to finding any pertinent peer review literature describing such a diagnosis?
Best to discuss with your pain specialist, general practice, and orthopedic doctors as to the etiology of the muscle deterioration.
you need a MRI after that you have it they can tell you wath the lesion consist
Musculoskeletal pain can be very disconcerting, both difficult to diagnose and treat. The ultrasound exam performed while performing a TAP block at the bedside is not necessarily a full diagnostic ultrasound. So the question might be do you really have a tear in the muscle? If the findings cannot be replicated or documented by another method, proceeding to surgery would be illogical. I am not familiar with the concept of oblique degeneration or the surgical treatment thereof. Perhaps your physiatrist or pain management specialist who informed you of this diagnosis can provide further guidance. Best wishes.
