I would love to find a surgeon who is confident in doing the panniculectomy at the same time as my hysterectomy
It is possible to do an abdominoplasty at same time as hysterectomy as long as you are a candidate for the procedure. A panniculectomy is different than an abdominoplasty in that it only removes skin and soft tissue from below the belly button. It does not include tightening the abdominal wall or any tissue above the belly button. In addition combining hysterectomy with those procedures increases risk for DVT and PE significantly so important that chemoprophylaxis for clots is important.
Hi Tia. A hysterectomy can be performed in conjunction with a tummy tuck for many patients It really depends upon multiple factors including the reason for your hysterectomy whether it is for cancer or not as well as your overall medical health and condition. You are best to be seen in person to be properly evaluated. Good luck.
This is not about confidence. It's about your life. Pelvic surgery puts you at high risk for thrombotic events and so does a tummy tuck. Put the two together and you are at high risk. Sorry, but the most competent and capable surgeons would always say no. Unfortunately, if you keep looking you'll find someone eventually. However, I strongly recommend that you don't. Best of luck!
Dear Tia,
Hello and thank you for your excellent question. I suggest that you either call a number of plastic surgeons in your area to see if they are willing to combine these procedures, or ask your OB for a referral to a plastic surgeon with whom he or she works. Good luck!
Tia, those two procedures can and often are combined assuming it’s the right thing for you. It is important that you know that a panniculectomy and a tummy tuck are not the same thing. Only in a tummy tuck is the waist tightened along with treating skin above the belly button. Best of luck!
