Coolsculpting

I am 22 y.o. female who has an athletic build (ex college athlete), weighing 160lbs and standing 5’11”. I am by no means obese, but have a solid build. I would like to consider getting coolsculpting to lean down my abdomen and jaw line... at what age are people eligible for this procedure? Are there any lasting effects? Is it safe and effective?

Procedure: Liposuction
Location: durham, NC

At age 22 you are eligible to be a candidate. As plastic surgeons, most of us feel that we are able to give you a superior result with liposuction and reserve non-invasive fat removal methods for those who wish to avoid surgical procedures. The changes are considered permanant, but as with liposuction if your weight does not remain stable, aesthetic improvement can be comprimised. Best wishes.

You sound like you are in excellent shape! You are a candidate for cool sculpting, but I agree with Dr Citron—you would get a much better, guaranteed result with even a small liposuction in these areas. All those billboards advertising coolsculpt make it look like you’re one fat freeze away from looking like a supermodel but it is false advertising. It takes several treatments months apart to see any result, which is—from what I have seen—pretty minimal. And the cost adds up. It is a permanent result but there is a very small chance of the fat actually growing (paradoxical fat hypertrophy) and that is a difficult problem to fix.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question. At 22 years of age you are eligible for either cool sculpting or liposuction and it depends on what goal results you are most interested in. There are pros and cons to each treatment option and it best to see a surgeon for an in-person evaluation of your tissues in order to get the best result. Hope this helps.
