Healing

I got a breast reduction surgery a little over 3 weeks ago. I noticed a couple days ago, one of my wounds started bleeding a little. The next day I noticed botches of skin looked raw (like no skin was covering it) under my breast. It also looks white in those areas if not red. This is right by where everything meet. I have no fever. I looked pretty healed, so wondering how it could be getting worse

Procedure: Breast Reduction
Location: Fayetteville, NC

Thank you for reaching out. From your description, you probably have what we call "delayed healing" at the point where your scar lines meet. This is a pretty common issue with particular types of breast reductions and usually can be cared for fairly simply. However, the best thing is to be in touch with the surgeon who performed your procedure to ask and be examined. He or she will be the best suited to address issues related to your recovery. Best wishes!

Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Because this sounds like a wound-healing problem, I would recommend reaching out to your surgeon for local wound care advice to help limit worsening of the area. Hope this helps.

What you describe is not uncommon. Wound healing problems at the “T” where the three skin flaps come together can delay your complete.recovery. These are usually minor setbacks, but do require medical attention. As my colleagues have stated, your surgeon should be contacted immediately so that these issues can be properly addressed. Best wishes.
