Is it normal to do a tummy tuck and a bbl at the same time ?

I'm planning on doing liposuction of my arms, inner thighs, flanks, knees, tummy tuck and a fat transfer to my bum. I'm getting conflicting feelings. Some surgeons say do them all at once a few say break them down into two different procedures. What would be the sensible way to do this.

Procedure: Tummy Tuck
Location: Murrieta, CA

That would depend on the total amount removed, the amount of time on the operating table and the amount to be injected into the buttocks. If the total aspirate to be removed is more than 4 or 5 liters it may be a better idea to break it down into more than 1 procedure. Because of the problems with fat transfer to the buttocks safe practice is now more superficial injection of smaller volumes. Since the superficial space is limited some patients are better off doing the buttock injections over 2 operations as well. There is no one size fits all answer for this.

The "problem" is that with a TT you need to be flexed and on your bum but with a BBL you need to be off your bum for best take of the fat for about 4-7 days. I have combined the two with my patients accepting that they will have less take of the fat that is transferred to the bum.

It is not normal and it is not safe. Additionally in Miami it is against law. I have done almost 6,000 BBL and have revised many patients who had both done at same time. I have never seen a good result with this combination. My observation has been that the patient had TT then surgeon never really did a BBL . Rather surgeon did lipo “here and there” in flanks and then infused a ridiculously small amount fat. In Brooklyn we do not call this a BBL, we call it “potchkeying” around the buttocks. Skip the TT and get a true BBL, unless you have skin drooping way down. This way you get a really snatched waist and out of this world projection of hips and buttocks. Combining TT and BBL will lead to disappointment and broken promises, a typical trait of a misogynist. Way, way too many TT done in America.

The decision making process in a patient such as you can be a little complicated. Providing you are a true Tummy Tuck candidate, the next question is how much excess fat you have and then what bothers you the most. A large volume liposuction would be best separated from the tummy tuck in my opinion, especially if you're contemplating a BBL. On the other hand, a patient who is primarily bothered by the loose abdominal skin and has only modest amounts of excess fat AND in whom the BBL is not that important an issue could have all procedures done at the same time, albeit in a hospital environment with an overnight stay. Best of Luck Dr Harrell
