7 days post op left side has had the same swelling. Left side looks big, right side flat and okay.

Seven days in post op after gynecomastia surgery, the swelling and discoloration on the left hand side has not healed properly. Left side has blood in it which makes it look extremely swollen and larger in size. Doc advised keeping the drains for another 7 days but the way the blood clots and clogs the pipe idk if waiting will make it come out. What do you advice?

It's hard to advise without seeing a picture of what your breasts look like. Based on your description, I would be sure to follow up with your surgeon. It is possible, that despite having a drain still in place, you have a collection of blood inside the breast which might need to be drained.

Thank you for sharing your question. Unfortunately without seeing a photograph or feeling the tissues it is difficult to offer definite advice. In many cases this can be routine healing but because of the drainage from your tubes it sounds as if you may have had a hematoma develop that is now liquefying and draining. I would talk in detail with your surgeon who should be able to help you recover from this.

It is not uncommon to have some excessive bleeding in one or both breasts after surgery for gynecomastia. If the bleeding is minimal then typically it will resolve on its own without any intervention. At some point however, opening the excision to remove a larger clot of blood may be indicated. Your surgeon ultimately will be the one to provide you with the available options. It's a judgement call based on each unique situation. Best of luck Dr Harrell
