What is a good age to do breast augmentation? How do I know my body is fully developed and ready?
It depends on your development. If your body has not changed in the last two years, you should be fine. If you are still in a developmental phase, it is best to wait.
Excellent question. You should be done with puberty and breast development should what is considered Tanner Stage 5. In addition to your body being ready, another equally important aspect should be that you need to be mentally ready and be mature enough for breast implants.
Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine which procedures are best to achieve your goals.
Best wishes!
Your breasts should be fully developed and stopped growing before considering breast augmentation.
It depends on what is going on with your body. The best thing to do is to see an ASPS plastic surgeon for an in person evaluation. For some women with uneven or asymmetric breasts, a procedure in the teen years may be appropriate.
I feel that breast augmentation is best done once the patient is at least 18. It is important to feel ready psychologically as well and have family support. The FDA recommends patients are 22 before getting silicone implants but saline implants are available at a younger age. Discussion with your primary care doctor can also be very helpful in this regard. It is always good to have a consultation, learn as much as you can about the procedure and then move forward at a later date if necessary. It is one of the best procedures we offer! I hope this is helpful to you.
Hello Angelique,
I wouldn't say there is a perfect age to do a breast augmentation, but rather look at timing. Is this to enhance your breasts that have already completed growth, or perhaps is it to even out breasts, or fill them out after child birth? Every women has different goals, and to really maximize your results a plastic surgeon needs to evaluate your body, age, and lifestyle and develop the perfect plan for you. Please give my office a call at 281-333-4600 to discuss your plans further. I look forward to meeting you.
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. As with any aesthetic procedure it is best for the tissues to be stable prior to any operation and I would recommend waiting until your natural breast size has not materially changed for at least a year. Hope this helps.
The earliest age that would be appropriate would be in the 17-18 year old range. There may be exceptions to this based on the patient's development and their emotional maturity as well as the family support that is available. Beyond that it can be performed at virtually any age. Some impacting factors include childbearing, breast feeding, etc. However there is no one appropriate age. Best of Luck Dr Harrell
