Tracheostomy scar revision

I had a consult to have my trach scar revised because it is uncomfortable when I swallow. The surgeon said I would have to be placed under general anesthesia for the procedure but I have read it can be done under local anesthesia. I do not want general anesthesia because I had Guillain-Barre and it is too risky for such a small procedure. Am I able to get the scar fixed under local anesthesia?

Procedure: General Reconstruction
Location: Raleigh, NC

Yes. If your surgeon is uncomfortable with this and you're not interested in finding someone else, ask if he can do it with light sedation during the injection phase and then stop the sedation and continue with you awake. Check this web site for certified plastic surgeons in your area.

Hello dear!! Yes it can be done under local anesthesia, but always remember that the most important thing is to trust your surgeon , make sure to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.

I am board certified in ENT and plastic surgery. Sometimes the revision involves repairing the windpipe, closing the muscles of the neck over the repaired windpipe, as well as revising the skin scar. Obtaining a surgical clearance from your neurologist may confirm your fears, or could even put your mind at ease regarding general anesthesia.
