Could being on my period on the surgery date cause complications?
I spoke to some former patients of the board-certified surgeon I have a consultation with and she said that he asks patients on birth control to stop taking pills before bc of risks of blood clots. This makes me a bit concerned that if I get my period (cycles were irregular before) on the surgery date this could cause excessive bleeding and other complications.

I had a seizure as an infant. Could rhinoplasty & anesthesia put me at risk for another one?
I'm 21 and the only surgery I've had was tooth extraction under general anesthesia. That went very well and there were no complications. I had a seizure once as an infant due to fever. What are my chances of suffering a seizure following surgery and anesthesia?

Stroke Survivor under 35yrs old
Miss Mo Your previous and stroke will have no effect on doing a breast augmentation. You will need to be seen to discuss with you what you want with an enhancement. The position of the implant below the muscle has only slightly different risk than above, but not because of your previous illness. Jon Sattler, MD Glendora, California

Chin Implant Came Out.
I had a chin augmentation 38 years ago. For about two months now, I have been having pain in that area. This was accompanied by swollen glands. A couple of weeks ago, a small hole developed under my chin and every morning there would be drainage coming from that hole. Well, my chin implant came out of that hole. My question is this: Does this happen often? Why did it happen after 38 years?

Will insurance cover this procedure?
Whether or not it would be covered depends on your insurance policy. Most require a medical record documented specific period of attempted non-surgical treatment such as chiropractic or physical therapy for pain or topical medications for breast related rashes and an amount of tissue to be removed proportional to your height and weight. Your surgeon will have to submit a letter for preauthorization to your insurance company to get approval for coverage before proceeding with surgery. It would be best if your surgeon has a copy of the health insurance policy before writing the letter to make sure each criteria of coverage is addressed in the letter and documented in you medical record.

Guess-timate on Size?
Hi Alan! I am glad your wife is doing well. As the other surgeons have mentioned it is hard to guess cup size based on just volume and there is also a ton of variability in sizing for bra manufacturers. I second the recommendation to offer a gift card instead. And remember that she should wait at least 4-6 weeks after surgery before purchasing new bras to let the breasts settle and the swelling to completely resolve. Have a great Christmas!
