Hi. My name is Sarah, I am 17, turning 18 very soon and considering a breast reduction. My mother and grandmother both had breast cancer, so I plan to get tested for the gene before speaking to a plastic surgeon near me. I am a size 38 G 220 pounds and 5 7. I have a lot of lower back pain. Will my insurance cover it? Will they do one for an 18 year old?
Sounds like you are a candidate for a breast reduction. You would have to see a plastic surgeon for. evaluation. Good luck!
Hi Sarah. Most insurances would cover this surgery, with the appropriate pre-authorization. But you'll have to check the specifics of your plan.
It sounds like you are a good candidate for the procedure.
It sounds like you are a good candidate for your insurance to cover your planned procedure but all are different. We send photos to your insurance people to see if they would. Also, since you are a minor, you need to have the approval of your parents.

Hi Sarah ,
18 is a good age to consider breast reduction. All insurance companies have different policies, so your surgeon can help you navigate this possibility. Go and see an ASPS surgeon in your area and have a consultation to learn more. All tissue that is removed will be sent to the pathologist for testing. I have many patients your age whose lives have been changed by having a breast reduction! Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Although an in-person examination would offer the best recommendations, it sounds as if you’d be an excellent candidate based on your narrative. See a series of ASPS board certified plastic surgeons in consultation to discuss.
