If your wife is unhappy with the size and shape of her breasts, she should consult with an ASPS member surgeon regarding her options. She likely has saline-filled implants, if they were placed in 2004 (silicone was not available at that time for breast enlargement patients). As long as the implants are intact, there is no reason to replace them, unless downsizing the implants is a necessary part of her breast reduction. If she needs a lift and small reduction, then a breast lift alone (removing a smaller amount of breast tissue) might suffice. Your wife should be up to date on her mammogram. If she has a card with the implant size/type on it, take that to her consultation. Unfortunately, pain is not something you can see to pluck out. A good exam by a plastic surgeon may be able to determine if the implant/capsule is a source of her pain. If her pain is in the breast, it may improve with time. Costs vary b/w $5000-10,000 depending on what is needed.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Unfortunately without knowing the style of implants or lift required, or the best procedures to help your wife achieve the look she is after, it is difficult to offer a price. With anesthesia, facility, and surgeon fees varying across the country, best to have her see a series of surgeons in her area for the best pricing recommendations.

If the implants are causing her pain, she may be very happy with removal. Replacement is also possible but if she wants smaller breasts, be sure to replace with smaller implants. If implants are ruptured and capsules are also involved, surgery may take more time and be more costly. Reduction or lift is sometimes done the same day and sometimes done as a separate procedure, once the breasts have healed from the implant removal. A breast reduction will remove skin and breast tissue, to make the breasts smaller an d lifted. The breast lift will remove skin only and lift the breasts while maintaining the breast size. It is wise to see an in person consultation to get firm numbers about cost. In Charlotte, NC, I can highly recommend the Charlotte Plastic Surgery group.

Hi. If those implants are 14 years old, she should change them for a new generation ones.

The average cost vary from region to region, and for one surgeon to another. In my practice including costs (pre ops, silicone gel implants, post surgical bras, post surgery medications, etc.. and medical fees of all involve, it will be US$3,750.00
