The 2024 In-Service Examination provides the most current information on the core curriculum of plastic surgery. The exam offers surgeons in practice the opportunity to challenge themselves and assess their knowledge of the entire scope of plastic surgery. Relevant questions in basic science will be included in each of the five categories. Surgeons have the flexibility to take two, three, four or five modules of this exam, with each section scored independently. A minimum passing score of 30% has been set for this activity.

In-Service Exam Highlights

• The exam consists of 250 questions covering the following areas: Comprehensive, Hand/Extremities, Craniomaxillofacial, Cosmetic/Breast, Core Surgical Principles
• Each section successfully completed is worth 7.5 credits for a total up to 37.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™
• The exam window is open April 10, 2024, through June 5, 2024

NOTE: Beginning in 2024, ASPS will no longer provide a post-exam syllabus to participants of the In-Service Exams. The newly developed In-Service Exam Rationales & References Guide will be the made available to all examinees and will be found at the exam site dashboards after the close of each exam.

Cancellations

All cancellations must be received in writing to be considered for refund. The final date to cancel or withdraw is June 4, 2024. No refunds or credits will be considered beyond this date. All refunds will be charged a $50 administrative fee.

Accreditation

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) designates this enduring material activity for a maximum of 37.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Of the 37.5 credits, 7.5 credits have been identified as being applicable to Patient Safety.

Scoring and Credits

ASPS is required to set a minimum performance level on activities such as the In-Service Exam and may only award AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ to those learners who meet the minimum performance level. Credits are based on the estimated completion and review time for the examination process and the achievement of a minimum performance level. In order to receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, your exam must be submitted by the exam closing time of 11:59 PM local time on June 5, 2024.

Based on a review of past In-Service Exams, the 2024 In-Service Committee has set the minimum performance level at 30 percent. Learners who do not meet the 30 percent minimum may take a second attempt at the exam to acquire a passing score.

Recognition Statement

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME and Self-Assessment requirement(s) of the American Board of Surgery's (ABS) Continuous Certification program. As a provider, ASPS is facilitating this process for our learners for all ASPS-accredited medical education activities.

Participants in ASPS-accredited education who want their Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits reported to certifying and state licensing boards must opt-in to reporting and add their NPI as well as state license ID and/or collaborating board ID(s). Click here before claiming credit.
