Position Overview 
The Department of Plastic Surgery at Nassau University Medical Center is seeking a Burn Surgery Fellow for the 2026 to 2027 academic year, beginning July 1, 2026. This is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship in burn surgery and complex wound healing. 

The fellowship is based within the Nassau County Firefighters Burn Center, the dedicated burn unit at NUMC and part of its Level I Trauma Center. The center serves a catchment area of approximately 3 million people and has provided advanced burn care since 1984. This program offers a high-volume, hands-on clinical experience spanning acute burn care, critical care management, complex wound treatment, and reconstructive surgery. 

The fellow will train in partnership with and under the clinical guidance of physicians from the New York Plastic Surgical Group (NYPSG). 

Employment Structure 
-The fellow is an employee of Nassau University Medical Center 
-Compensation and benefits are provided by NUMC and aligned with the applicable PGY salary level 
-The application review, interview process, and candidate selection are overseen by NYPSG in collaboration with NUMC leadership 

Key Responsibilities 
-Participate in the evaluation and management of acute burn and critical care patients 
-Assist in operative and non-operative burn care, including grafting and reconstruction 
-Manage complex wounds using advanced wound care techniques 
-Gain exposure to hyperbaric medicine 
-Work in partnership with NYPSG physicians across inpatient and operative settings 
-Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across surgical and critical care services 
-Participate in teaching and mentorship of medical students and residents 
-Contribute to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives as appropriate 

Training Experience 
The fellow will develop proficiency in: 
-Burn resuscitation and critical care management 
-Operative burn treatment and skin grafting 
-Advanced wound care and reconstruction 
-Functional and aesthetic burn reconstruction 
-Multidisciplinary burn team coordination 

Qualifications 
Preferred 
American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery eligible or certified 

Required 
-Completion of at least two years of an accredited residency program with critical care experience 
-Eligibility for a New York State medical license (must be obtained by fellowship start date) 
-Strong interest in burn surgery, wound care, and reconstructive surgery 
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-acuity clinical environment
