mission of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is to advance the
science through research and the training. The Division provides faculty with
specialized clinical and research environments to foster professional growth
and provide exceptional care for the community, while maintaining a steadfast
commitment to diversity among our staff and student body.
Chief Purpose of
this position: The
Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery is
recruiting for a collateral, non-tenure track faculty position dedicated to hand
and upper extremity surgery, limb salvage, and general plastic surgery. The
faculty member will develop a specialized academic practice focusing on complex
upper and lower extremity trauma, microsurgery, and general reconstructive
surgery. A strong emphasis is placed on microsurgical techniques essential for
limb salvage and functional restoration.
Position
Responsibilities:
Clinical
Develop
an active surgical practice specializing in the full spectrum of hand and upper
extremity conditions, microsurgery, and general plastic surgery.
Responsibilities include managing complex trauma, reconstructive procedures,
and wound management at VCU Medical Center and affiliated community sites.
Teaching
Provide
expert oversight for residents, fellows, and medical students in hand and
plastic surgery clinics and the operating room. Lead educational initiatives in
macroscopic and microscopic anatomy, fracture fixation, and soft tissue
management.
Research
Support
clinical or translational research projects focused on evidence-based outcomes
in hand and wrist surgery. Mentoring students in investigating patient-centered
recovery and innovative surgical techniques and support departmental quality
improvement initiatives.
Service
Serve
on departmental, hospital, and university committees. Actively participate and
seek leadership roles in national organizations.
Required
Qualifications:
· Must be Board
Certified/Board Eligible in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
· Commitment to
Resident Education and teaching
· Commitment to
Clinical Research and Innovation
· Demonstrated
experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student
environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required
Preferred
Qualifications:
· Fellowship
training in Microsurgery and/or Hand Surgery
