Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a condition in which blood clots form, most likely occurring in the deep veins of the leg, arm, or groin, otherwise known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) circulating to the lungs, known as pulmonary embolism (PE). It is imperative that a VTE Risk Assessment is used to determine risk factors and to assess the patient’s prophylaxis needs prior to major surgery. In this course, you will be educated on the process of administering VTE Risk Assessments as well as prophylaxis options should your patient need them.
Learning Objectives
After viewing this course, the participant should be able to:
- Complete a VTE Risk Assessment for patients undergoing major surgery
- Educate patients about the risk factor, signs, and symptoms of VTE
- Utilize risk reduction strategies
- Patient appropriate prophylaxis methods should be administered
