The 2021 In-Service Examination provides the most current information on the core curriculum of plastic surgery. The exam offers surgeons in practice the opportunity to challenge themselves and assess their knowledge of the entire scope of plastic surgery. Relevant questions in basic science will be included in each of the five categories. Surgeons have the flexibility to take two, three, four or five modules of this exam, with each section scored independently. A minimum passing score of 30% has been set for this activity in compliance with the American Medical Association.

The exam is broken down to sections covering the following: Comprehensive, Hand/Extremities, Craniomaxillofacial, Cosmetic/Breast and Core Surgical Principles.

Accreditation

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) designates this enduring material activity for a maximum of 37.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Of the 37.5 credits, 7.5 credits have been identified as being applicable to Patient Safety.

Scoring and Credits

ASPS is required to set a minimum performance level on activities such as the In-Service Exam and may only award AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ to those learners who meet the minimum performance level. Credits are based on the estimated completion and review time for the examination process and the achievement of a minimum performance level. In order to receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credits, your exam must be submitted by the exam closing time of 11:59pm local time on June 9, 2021.

Based on a review of past In-Service Exams, the 2021 In-Service Committee has set the minimum performance level at 30 percent. Learners who do not meet the 30 percent minimum may take a second attempt at the exam to acquire a passing score.
