Product Description

Multimodal analgesia uses combinations of analgesic medications that act in an additive or synergistic manner to achieve pain relief with minimal or no opiate consumption. The goal is to reduce the reliance on opioids for pain management by using medications that act on differing pathways and receptors.

Learning Objectives
After viewing this course, the participant should be able to:

  1.  Recall the elements for successful multimodal pain management and the advantages of multimodal analgesia.
  2.  Identify differences between pre-emptive, preventive and multimodal analgesia.
  3.  Compare the research that has been done on pain management for plastic surgery procedures.
  4.  Discuss medication usage, drawbacks and interactions of multimodal analgesia.
  5.  Indicate how surgeons unwittingly contribute to the opioid epidemic and what can be done to reduce it.
