The official implementation date for ICD-10, as of now, is Oct. 1, 2015 – exactly one year later than it was originally set to be instituted for claims. Although Oct. 1 is nine months away, a great deal of preparation is necessary for medical practices to be ready to make the transition. Since ICD-10 is a radically different system from ICD-9, surgeons, coders and billers must spend time learning this new convention in coding.
